Added 25.09.11 - Under 14 Boys Nationals Referee

Today, Ryan Weedon, has set off aboard a Qantas plane bound for the 2011 Under 14 Boys National Championships to be held in sunny Brisbane.

Ryan will be representing not only Mill Park, but Victorian Metro referees on a National level and refereeing some of the best talent in the Under 14 boys competitions from across the country.

It is a week long competition where referees are critiqued on every game, must be an emergency referee on certain games (in the event one of the officials injures themself - it happens), must be extremely well presented and well behaved at all times but also where referees from across the country get to minlge with each other, share their stories, a few laughs and create new friendships.

Ryan becomes one of only a small handful of refrees from Mill Park to be nominated to referee at an Australian National Championships and we wish him all the best in hopefully snagging one of 4 medal matches up for grabs (Gold, Gold shield, Bronze & Bronze shield). However, the medals are not what makes the competition. It is the growth and new experiences which teach each referee how to better themselves that every referee gets out of the competition.

We look forward to hearing how he goes and we wish him all the best!

Stay tuned for more information...

Added 21.09.11 - Mill Park Referee snags VJBLGrand Final Match @ Dandenong!

It has been a long season for the VJBL referees. A lot of hard work and effort has gone into traveling around Victoria, refereeing mutiple levels at multiple venues etc etc. All our Panel referees should be applauded for their outstanding efforts.
Special commendation must go to Jessica Antony this week for her selection to referee the Under 12 Boys VC Reserve Grand Final at Dandenong this Friday night (the 23rd September).
It is a tremendous achievement to be given this opportunity out of the hundreds of referees on Junior Panel across Victoria and we wish her all the best.

Good Luck!

Added 16.08.11 - Mill Park Referee into BigV Grand Finals 2011

A few weeks ago we mentioned that we had two referees in the finals series this year. Congratulations to them both for making it this far as not many referees get this opportunity. It is unfortunate that both Brett and Aydin were not able to go through to their respective Grand Finals but this doesn't in any way diminish the effort put in throughout 2011.

This week we congratulate Aydin Baker on his advancement to the Grand Final of the State Youth Championship 2 Men. Oddly enough, this is the only final this year in which there is a Whittlesea Pacers team present.

So the pressure is on for everyone!!!

So come down to support Mill Park's players and referees in the SYC2 Men's Grand Finals 2011.

Good Luck everyone!!!

Added 01.08.11 - Mill Park referees selected for BigV Finals 2K11

Congratulations to Brett Weedon and Aydin Baker who have been selected for BigV Finals this year.

Brett Weedon - State Youth 1 Men Championship
Aydin Baker - State Youth 2 Men Championship

These selections represent a great deal of effort put in throughout the 2011 season.
Both Brett & Aydin are no strangers to the finals scene; this is Brett's second finals series selection and is also Aydin's third year out of three years refereeing BigV to be selected for Youth 2 Men finals.
However, these are not Grand Final appointments so the pressure is still on for the boys.
Good Luck!!!!

And look here for further news on their efforts and Grand Final appointments in the coming weeks.

Added 15.07.11 - Mill Park referee selected for 2011 Nationals

The Mill Park referee's committee has learned today that our very own Ryan Weedon will be representing not only Mill Park, but Victoria in the Under 14s National Junior Championships in Brisbane later this year.
National Championships bring together the very very best of players from across Australia into a week long tournament where scouts are looking for the next big star and referees are very closely scrutinized and ever hopeful of snatching a medal at the end.
But whatever the result may be; this is a trumendous honour for Ryan and we wish him all the best. Congratulations Ryan and keep up the good work.

 GO RYAN

Added 14.06.11 - National Junior Classic Follow Up

Another amazing tournament and this year the Mill Park team have had another stellar performance!!! This year we were represented by Lauren Broderick and Jarrad Zappone at the Under 12/14s @ MSAC and by Aydin Baker and Bree Moore at the Under 16/18s @ Dandenong (unfortunately, due to work committments, Jess Antony and Ryan Weedon were unable to attend).

The committee had its eye on our referees and we are proud to congratulate some amazing achievements this year;

Gold Medal - Under 12 Girls: Lauren Broderick
Bronze Medal - Under 14 Boys: Jarrad Zappone
Bronze Medal - Under 16 Boys: Aydin Baker.

This is an amazing achievement for them but this is also a huge success for Mill Park! We are only improving as we go (last year we only had one medal referee - this year it's three!!!)

Let's look at the stats....there is a gold and bronze medal match for Under 12, 14, 16 & 18's boys and girls and two referees selected to each of these matches. So of the 16 matches and 32 referees needed we had Mill Park representation in 3 matches and 3 of 32 referees chosen from a group of hundreds of referees from across Australia.

 WOW

Mill Park would like to extend its thanks to all teams, players, coaches, referees, spectators, organisers etc. that made the weekend such a success. We are looking forward to what next year brings.

Added 08.06.11 - Referee of the month Award
This week we celebrate another great achievement.
In the latest Referee Bulletin, posted by Bill Mildenhall today, our very own Ashleigh Del Romano was recognized for the Referee of the month award. This is an amazing success for Ashleigh and a great role model for younger referees to look up to and aspire towards.
Congratulations Ash and keep up the good work.

Added 01.05.11 - Grade 1 Referee Coaches Course

We wish to say good luck to three of our referees that are starting their next step in the refereeing world by undertaking the Grade 1 Referee Coach course. Aydin Baker, Bree Moore and Ryan Weedon will undergo several weeks of lessons and exams and finally sit a practical exam to assess whether they have what it takes to be ref coaches. Good luck to them and look for further news of their success here soon.

Added 01.05.11 - Level 2 Referee
Congratulations must go to Ryan Weedon who has recently been awarded his Level 2A Referee grading.
Ryan participated in an intense Theory section of the course followed by a Practical assesment to assess his competency (which he passed with flying colors due to his excellent performance on the BigV panels in 2010).
He joins the select number of senior referees at Mill Park who have their Level 2A and we look forward to big things from him as he prgoesses with his refereeing career.

Well done Ryan!!!!
